Submissions
Once you have ordered your site, you will need to provide TheConnectionSite with your web content in the form of text and photos. Below are the requirements for submitting each of these types of documents, along with some notes on professional photography and color.
Text
You will need to supply the text for each of the pages you would like in your site. You may submit documents either electronically, or via fax or mail. We do not accept wording over the phone, with the exception of single page announcements. If you plan to mail your documents to us, a mailing address will be provided to you when you order your site.
Electronic Submissions: We prefer your electronic submissions to be in Microsoft Word (any version and either Mac or PC formats are acceptable.) If you do not have this option, please save your word processed document at a "RTF" (Rich Text Format) or Simple Text. Please include your submissions as e-mail attachments rather than copying the text into the body of the e-mail. When you copy and paste your text files, most e-mail programs add line breaks throughout the document. You will be charged an hourly rate to remove these line breaks if you choose to submit your files in this manner.
Paper Submissions: We will gladly accept paper submissions for text, but please note that for manual entry, only the first 100 words per page is included in the price. A fee will be assessed for manual submissions beyond this word limit. Please keep a copy of all text submitted, especially text that is difficult to read, so that you can answer questions should they arise.
Photos
You may submit original photos or scans for your website. We will be happy to scan your images for you, but small fee for scanning will be incurred. In the case of printed wedding or baby announcements, we require the original photograph (cost of scanning is included in the price) or a high-resolution scan provided by the photographer. In most cases, images from digital cameras are acceptable for web use, but not high enough resolution for quality printing.
Electronic Submissions: You may submit photo files as .jpg, .tif, .eps, and other formats. We can also accept most photo CDs, such as those that come when you develop your film. Images submitted electronically will not be color corrected or cropped. If images need additional work before publishing on the web, we will contact you with an estimate. If you would like minimal corrections done to your files or minor "photo cosmetic surgery" such as lightening of dark circles under eyes or blemish removal, please call for a price quote. Photos may be e-mailed or mailed on a CD. NOTE: If you would like captions or titles to appear with your photos on photo albums, this information needs to be included in the electronic file. Please call if you do not know how to include this with your file so we can walk you through it.
Printed Photo Submissions: If you prefer to submit your photos in their original format, please include reference information (such as a title) on the back of each photo. Color copies of photos will produce very poor results, so please only submit originals. If you would like your photos returned to you, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your submission. Our scans include minimal color correction. For photo restoration work or minor "photo cosmetic surgery" such as red-eye removal, lightening of dark circles under eyes, or blemish removal, please call for a price quote. Note that we do not fix blurry images, remove shadows, or otherwise correct poor-quality images.
Copyrighted Submissions
We cannot post material on your website that that has been copyrighted to someone else, unless you have obtained written permission to post it. This includes, but is not limited to, text that you have copied from someone else's website, images that you have downloaded from someone else's website, and professional photography. Although the photo is of you, in most cases the photographer owns the rights to the photo and it may not be reproduced without their consent. If you or your photographer have questions about this, please call us for more information.
Color
If you would like to have us include a specific color (such as for wedding sites), please include a digital "swatch" of the color that is correct on your screen for websites or a printed (paper or fabric) material with the correct color for printed pieces. Note that color on screens varies from computer to computer and is very different from printed color. Computer monitors and televisions use three lights (red, green, and blue) to produce the colors you see on screen. Printers use four inks (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) to produce the colors on printed materials. Because these methods are so different, while we will make every effort to provide a "pleasing match" we cannot guarantee an exact match either on screen or on press. Please do not use a print-out from your home printer as an estimate of final printed color.
Please call us if you have any questions. We will be happy to talk you through this process and will work with you to ensure that we can use what you send.
